Nothing like it! Used by teachers, writers, linguists, poets, and scrabble players! Over 93,000 words. XP compatible.
With the Phonetic Finder you can save time brainstorming for words containing
specific sound combinations. First, choose symbols from the phonetic chart
containing vowels, stops, fricatives, affricates, liquids, and glides.
Use the "wild card" symbols to match zero or more sounds, any
single sound, consonant, or vowel sounds. Once you have assembled your
phonetic pattern, click the Search button to retrieve a list of words with
that pattern. The Phonetic Finder quickly assembles data for minimal pairs,
pronunciation exercises, phonics research, and other types of phonetic
study.
| "You can use Phonetic Finder to search for words by the way they sound. Simply double-click on each different type of sound you require and then hit Search. You'll then be offered a variety of word choices." PC Guide, August 2002 |

Using Phonetic Finder
First, create a phonetic pattern and retrieve words that match those
sounds. For example, if you want to retrieve a list of words that have
an alliterative "p" sound at the beginning of both first and
second syllables, you can do it in either of two ways: 1) type in a word
like "piper" and click To Phonetic. The symbols pI-p<ur>
appear in the Phonetic pattern edit text box. Replace the pI-p<ur>
with p*-p*. The asterisk means "match zero or more sounds" and
the hyphen means "match a syllable break;" or 2) type in p*-p*
directly into the Phonetic pattern edit text box. Click Options from the
Edit menu if, for example, you want to change the number of syllables to
two. Click the Search button, and you will retrieve only two syllable words
with alliterative "p" sounds.
