FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I automatically get my company name to be inserted in the policy manual I create?

A. In the policy manual document, the spaces for the company name are denoted by the phrase [COMPANY]. From the Microsoft Word toolbar, select Edit | Replace. In the "Find What" box, type [COMPANY], and in the "Replace With" box, enter your company's name. When you click on the Replace All button, your company's name will be automatically inserted throughout the manual.

Q. Where can I find the Department of Labor Posters? I can't find them in the template browser.

A. To get access to the selection of Posters, click START | Programs | OfficeReady - Office Policy Manual | Office Policy Manual Posters.

Q. I've never written a company policy manual or employee handbook before. Do you have a set of guidelines that I can use?

A. The Office Policy Manual 2008 policy templates contain a wide variety of policy topics. Each topic contains starting-point policy text and many topics provide optional policies. You can customize and adapt each policy as you see fit. Further, the policy manual can always be edited at a later date - to incorporate policy updates or changes.

Office Policy Manual 2008 also provides an eBook titled How to Write a Policy Manual, in PDF format. This informative eBook is a useful guide that will help you create and refine your policy manual.

Q. Where are the policy templates stored on my hard drive?

A. The default directory where the templates are stored is:
"C:\Program Files\OfficeReady Pro 3.0\Templates\OfficeReady - Office Policy Manual".

You can also check the location of your templates from within the Office Policy Manual template browser. In the browser, select View | Details. The location of each template will appear next to its name.

Q. How can I see a preview of a template before I open it in Microsoft Office?

A. In the Office Policy Manual 2008 template browser, select View | Preview Pane. A preview of the highlighted template will appear below the list of templates in the lower right hand side of the browser window.

You can also click on the Preview button, located in the lower right-hand corner of the browser. This will open a preview of the highlighted template in another window.

Q. What version of Microsoft Office do I need in order to use the Office Policy Manual 2008?

A. Office Policy Manual 2008 is compatible with Microsoft Office versions 2000, 2002 (XP) & 2003.

Q. How can I edit one of your templates and save it as a new template?

A. After you load a template in Microsoft Word, you can save the document as a template. From the Word toolbar, select File | Save As. In the Save As dialog box, select Document Template (*.dot) in the Save as Type box, and save the file to your hard drive for future use.

NOTE: You will not be able to view a preview of new templates you create from the Office Policy Manual 2008 template browser, but you will see the file name listed in the upper right-hand pane of the browser window.

Q. When I try to open the Office Policy Manual 2008 eBook, I get an "overflow" error message.

A. This may mean that your system's memory (RAM) is running low. Exit out of any programs you are no longer using, and try to open the eBook again.

If you still receive this error message after closing other programs, we recommend restarting your system and then trying again.

Q. How can I insert the information from my profile into a template?

A. When you open a template from the Office Policy Manual 2008 template browser, an Apply Profile window will appear. Select the profile you would like to use, and press the OK button. Your profile information will be automatically placed into the template.

If the Apply Profile window does not appear, you can always apply your profile from within Microsoft Word. There are two ways to do this:

  • 1 - From the Word toolbar, select OfficeReady Professional | Apply Profile.

  • 2 - From the OfficeReady toolbar in Word, click the Apply Profile button.

Q. Can I keep track of my appointments with Office Policy Manual 2008?

A. Yes, you can! Office Policy Manual 2008 comes with a Microsoft Excel worksheet called "Appointments". You can find this worksheet in the OfficeReady - Office Policy Manual Browser. Click on the Excel tab at the top of the Browser window, and then click on the Human Resources list item under OfficeReady Office Policy Manual on the left hand side of the Browser window. There you will find the Appointments template.

This section also includes several calendar templates that you can use for time management and planning.
